‘Despicable’ thieves take school computers

By Antony Gedge in Crime

“DESPICABLE” thieves who stole children’s computers in a burglary at an Aberystwyth primary school are being hunted by police.

Ysgol Gymraeg headteacher Clive Williams said the theft of the “vital IT equipment” would affect the education of pupils until the stolen computers can be replaced.

Ceredigion county councillor Mark Strong, who is a governor at the school, described the thieves, who were captured on CCTV, as “despicable” for targeting the school.

The burglary happened in the early hours of Thursday, 5 January, when thieves broke into a cabin at the school and made off with the IT equipment.

Police have confirmed they are investigating the burglary and have appealed for information.

Mr Williams said school chiefs had been left disappointed that the school had been targeted by thieves.

He said: “We are very disappointed with this recent burglary that has targeted vital IT equipment.

“This will have a negative impact in the short term on the resources available in order to promote effective learning.”
