Aber Town’s new striker sent to jail

By Caleb Spencer in Crime

NEWLY-SIGNED Aberystwyth Town striker Lee Healey is in jail, after being arrested by police after playing in his first game for the club against Cefn Druids on Saturday.

Healey, 30, who only signed for the Seasiders this month, was arrested by Merseyside Police, who came down to Aberystwyth hours after the final whistle.

He was jailed for 12 weeks by Liverpool magistrates after admitting breaching a restraining order by sending threatening text messages to his ex-partner.

Tony Bates, Aberystwyth Town FC chairman, said: “We found him in good faith, but the board will decide what action is taken.

“He can’t be transferred to another club because he has already played for two clubs this season and FAW rules say he can’t now play for another club.

“I am naturally concerned about bringing the club into disrepute, and the board will have to make a decision about what to do.

“He is a non-contract player with us, so we are free to release him if that’s what the board decides to do.”
