Powell bolsters Aber's squad

ABERYSTWYTH Town boss Neville Powell has added three signings to his squad ahead of their Welsh Premier League opener at Barry Town United on Sunday.

Experienced centre back John McKenna, exciting winger Christian Langos and attacking prospect Harri Horwood have all been added to the first team squad.

McKenna has a wealth of experience in the WPL having made his name at The New Saints, coming through the academy system, and as a part of their 2009/10 title-winning squad.

He made 55 appearances before moving on to Newtown, Colwyn Bay, Warrington Town and Rhyl, after which he moved to Australia.

The 27-year-old played a key role in Aber’s defence during the pre-season.

Langos joins having spent time under Powell at Bangor City in 2015/16.

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Langos started out at Marine FC before joining Bangor.

The 23-year-old winger has already made 47 WPL appearances, including a stint at Rhyl, and will look to add to that tally having impressed for Aber in pre-season.

Seventeen-year-old Horwood joins the first team having made a big impression for Aber’s development league squad last year.

The attacking midfielder was selected for the Welsh Under 18 Academy Representative Squad Training Camp and went on to be picked for the Welsh Academy squad against the Republic of Ireland.

He scored the winner in the Black and Greens’ recent friendly at Ynysgerwn.

Aberystwyth Town kick off their Welsh Premier League season at newly promoted Barry Town United on Sunday (5.15pm ko). The match will be shown on Sgorio on S4C from 5pm.
