Bodlondeb campaigners look to festivalgoers for support

By Antony Gedge in Health

CAMPAIGNERS fighting to protect the Bodlondeb care home will be urging visitors to the Sea2Shore festival to get involved in the consultation into the future of the home.

Members of the Save Bodlondeb campaign will be present at the festival on Sunday at the Penparcau Community Forum stall to provide information about the home and the Ceredigion County Council consultation into the future of the home, which runs until the end of September.

The campaign was launched following the council’s announcement that it wants to close Bodlondeb, citing vacant spaces, the cost of renovating the home and regulations about the size of rooms for residents.

The group has said it will be at the Sea2Shore festival to provide information and enable members of the public to collect a consultation document. A petition against the closure of the home will also be available.

Dai Thomas, a member of the group, will also be holding a silent vigil in support of keeping Bodlondeb open and in the public sector at Aberystwyth’s Town Clock square at 10am on Saturday, 12 August.

A steering group has been established as part of the campaign to draw up a series of proposals for the future of care in the Aberystwyth area. The next meeting of the steering group, which is open to the public, will on 21 August at Plas Antaron, Southgate.
